Our Activities
It all started out as five hunters, six horses and plans to be gone for at least two weeks to Colorado for the elk hunt. Yet a misfortunate accident left us with only four hunters, three bull tags and one cow tag, and five horses. The hunters were Jim (aka Dad) and Tom Nichols (yearly hunters), Tim Hall (second trip) and Mitzi (first trip/the newbe). Leaving the fifth hunter, Vance, (should have been his second trip) at home with a broken pelvis. We were fortunate enough to all have a kill, but one hunter on opening morning. Tom's kill was the first on opening morning, a four by five bull; Mitzi was next with her cow at noon (with Dad assisting of course); Tim then killed soon after with another nice bull. Then when the tough work was finally finished of the cleaning, quartering, and packing back into camp it left us with one hunter with an open tag. Dad who had not yet killed, thanks to assisting me in my first kill and helping me pack it back to camp, had his lone bull tag yet to fill. So the following morning we left camp, again together to stake out a bull...hopefully a trophy one! We made it to the spot to find another hunter already there, so we walked on to yet another spot. Along the way we almost got completely ran over by two large bulls! In all the excitement all I could yell to Dad was, "Kill the big one! Kill the big one!" It might not have been the biggest Dad had ever killed but definitely the most unique one! Making this a wonderful trip with all of us hunters filling our tags and having true success!
